(20) This Regulation applies, inter alia, to the activities of courts and other judicial authorities, but Union law or Member State law may further specify the operations and procedures for the processing of personal data by courts and other judicial authorities. The jurisdiction of supervisory authorities should not apply to the processing of personal data by courts in the exercise of justice - so as to protect the independence of the administration of justice. It should be possible to entrust the supervision of such data processing operations to special bodies in the justice system of a Member State, these bodies should in particular ensure compliance with the provisions of this Regulation, raise awareness in the judiciary of its obligations under this Regulation, and handle complaints related to such data processing operations.
