How should remote training be evaluated?

ANSWER

Evaluating remote training is a key element in ensuring its effectiveness and continuous improvement. It is a process that makes it possible to understand whether training objectives were achieved, how participants received the content and format of the training, and to identify areas for improvement. Using appropriate tools and strategies helps in this task by providing valuable feedback. The most popular tools include:

  1. Surveys and evaluation questionnaires — after each training session, it is worth conducting a survey or evaluation questionnaire. This allows direct feedback to be collected from participants. Questions should cover both the training content and its organisation, clarity of delivery and overall satisfaction with participation.
  2. Knowledge tests — conducting knowledge tests before and after the training can be very effective in measuring how much participants learned during the session. Comparing the results of these tests helps assess the effectiveness of knowledge transfer.
  3. Activity observation — many remote training platforms enable tracking of participant activity. Analysis of this data, such as engagement in discussions, participation in quizzes or assignments, can provide insight into the effectiveness of the training.
  4. Progress evaluation — this may include regular assessment of participants' progress against defined training objectives, for example by assigning tasks or projects to be completed after the training.
  5. Trainer feedback — if the training was delivered by an external trainer, it is also worth collecting their feedback. Instructors often have unique insight into what worked and what could be improved.
