Do I understand correctly that I should have a business continuity plan for every threat — i.e. a plan for what to do in each situation?

ANSWER

Yes, a proper approach to business continuity management includes developing response plans for different types of threats or crisis situations that may occur. Each threat should be covered in the business continuity plan, and those plans should set out a specific course of action when a given event occurs. Whether it is an IT system failure, a natural disaster, a cyberattack or another type of crisis, it is important that the organisation has prepared plans defining what to do when each threat materialises. This allows the organisation to respond quickly and effectively to crises, minimising disruption to operations and limiting losses.
