What about data collected by Google Analytics?
ANSWER
Google Analytics is an online tool for analysing website statistics. In this context, the following information about visitors to a given website is processed:
- the identifier of the person visiting the website (the Google Analytics cookie identifier, i.e. the Google Analytics client ID),
- in the case of persons who have logged in to the website using a user account – an internal identifier,
- any order identifiers,
- IP addresses.
With regard to visitor identifiers, it should be noted that they are unique and are intended to distinguish individual persons. These identifiers may be combined with other information, such as the address of the website visited, browser and operating system metadata, time and visit data relating to the website, and the IP address. Such a combination of information enables further distinction between individual persons.
For this reason, the combination of several elements may enable the identification of a person visiting the website of a company using the Google Analytics service. Knowledge of the person’s name or physical address is not required, since – in accordance with Recital 26 GDPR – such distinction is sufficient to identify the visitor.
In summa: personal data is processed within Google Analytics.
